The HI-TEC Walkerbay Xtreme consisted of 6 different sporting events and took place from the 29th of April to the 1st of May. The six events that made up the Big 6 Xtreme’s were, a 18km Cliffpath Xtreme road run, 17km Blue Mountain trail run, Urban Xtreme mountain bike criterium, a 2.5km open water swim, the Walkerbay Xtreme sprint triathlon, as well as the Sea & Sand Xtreme swim-run-jump challenge.
I used my BH Ultimate 29er for the Urban Xtreme mountain bike criterium which was perfect for the short and technique course which mainly included man made featured. My BH Aerolight Ultegra was used for the cycling leg of the triathlon, a great weapon to have on the flat and fast course along the Hermanus coastline!
Namibian triathlon champion Jean-Paul Burger took top honours, with Xterra specialist Theo Blignaut taking 2nd. I rounded out the podium in 3rd. A result I was very happy considering the calliper of those who finished around me.
The weekend of racing was challenging but extremely enjoyable, with near perfect race conditions, a great vibe between the athletes and excellent event organization.
