BH G7 Disc Di2
BH is a company whose presence in South Africa, perhaps belies its bike building prowess. It’s a premium brand that was established over a century ago which is imported from Spain. Winning the first two editions of the Vuelta a Espana and multiple stages and races thereafter. The brand has remained present in the pro peleton since then with sponsorship’s of the likes of AG2R Le Mondiale, Team Sojasun and at present, Team Direct Energie.
The new G7, ticks an awful lot of the boxes on a racer’s or serious enthusiast rider’s wish list: It looks great, rides fantastically over any bike surface, handles predictably and superbly and comes with disc brakes with thru-axles.
FEEL
From the first pedal stroke, you immediately feel this is no ordinary bike. It’s smooth as silk feel as riding is helped largely by the frame design which has beautifully curved rear stays and 25c tyres that it comes standard with. Its light, fast and just feels great like a top end racing bike should feel.
FRAME
The frame is extremely aerodynamic and with it being a disc, even more so with no brake calipers, thus allowing the wind to flow uninterrupted over the bike as you cycle. It’s a beautifully designed frame and at 900g is really light.
BREAKING
The brakes are unbelievable. There is quite a lot of modulation in the sti, allowing for powerful yet predictable braking. Raining outside… Not a problem at all, one of the major pluses of disc is that you have consistent braking in wet or dry conditions. On one of my test days, it rained and this allowed me to put the disc brakes to the test. It was faultless, still smooth predicable braking and this gave me a lot of confidence even on a fast twisty decent.
GROUPSET
This model comes standard with a Shimano Ultegra Di2 groupset which makes changing gears not only easy but fun too. Just a touch of the paddle on the sti shifters and it shifts instantly. Chain rub is a thing of the past too as the front derailleur auto corrects itself if you cross chain. Another nice feature is the ability to shift more than one gear at a time. Simply just hold in the paddle a few seconds longer and it will move 2, 3 or the full clusters as your needs require. I loved the shifting and in combination with this amazing ride, make the G7 in my opinion perfect and well rounded.
WHEELS
The Evo wheel is BH’s own in house wheel and what a fantastic wheel it is. It’s fast and has a snappy feel. Being a 50mm makes it the perfect match for this very aerodynamic frame. It makes riding such a pleasure, picks up speed fast and maintains it easily. This bike covers all of the bases of what a fast, comfortable and agile bicycle should be. BH have really done a fine job on this bike
