“To raise exposure, funds and books for Shine, I will endeavour to cycle from Cairo to Cape Town arriving in time for the 40th Cape Town Cycle Tour on the 12 March 2017. One week later I will be on the start line for the toughest mountain bike stage in the world, The ABSA Cape Epic which will kick off 8 days of grueling riding on the 19 March 2017. One week after completing the Cape Epic, I will line up for the IRONMAN SA Championships in Port Elizabeth on the 2 April 2017.”
Day 2:
Day 2 in the bag! Made it to Ra’S Gharib, Al Bahr Al Ahmar, Egypt today (125 km) which was my target, wanted to go further actually but couldn’t find any sign of hotels further down the road. So tomorrow will be a big day at 160 km. Was an awesome ride today! Light traffic, often an empty road, it had 2 lanes so I just took the one lane and a MASSIVE tailwind, was sitting comfortably at 42 kph for ages. I got totally excited and pushed too hard in first 40 and then paid for it with cramp. 🙂 I backed off and shortly after pulled over and had breakfast with some policemen. Lots of sign language and some good tea! ? ? My legs settled a bit after that and I mostly just hung around the 32-42 kph mark which was amazing.
Amazing road today, smooth tar, empty and totally flat. Going to also enjoy that while it lasts! Kriscross my @bhsouthafrica bike is going well, so far so good! Sung out loud a lot to my music. No one should hear that. Tomorrow will be a long day at 160 km, that’s right on the limit of my fitness at the moment.
